Analisi
responsabile scientifico: Dario Trabucco
Life Cycle Assessment of Tall Building Structural System” (©CTBUH 2015).
Research had the objective to conduct a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) analysis of the tall buildings’ structural systems, analyzing the environmental impacts of different materials (steel, concrete, composite materials)
and about different structural schemes.
The activity
started with an investigation
of some preliminary data collected
during the precedent year at the headquarters
of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (Illinois Institute
of Technology in Chicago), verifying the completeness and appropriateness
of the information already collected
and contributing to the study
and the completion of certain
phases that were incomplete or not completely developed.
After this analysis phase, were conduct the calculation phase and the drafting of the final report:
"Life Cycle Assessment
of Tall Building Structural
System"
(© CTBUH 2015).
During the months in which it was
carried out research, there were also
the opportunity to started
some new research activities
related to the same scientific field of the environmental sustainability of technological systems for architecture, working on the creation of the "Tall Timber Buildings CTBUH Working Group", actively participating in the courses of
“Building Systems” and “architectural
Technology" with lessons about
issues related to tall buildings, the use of wood as a possible
alternative and sustainable material
for the construction of tall
buildings, rather than related to case studies of tall buildings. The grant was also able
to work with the Visiting Professor Tatsuo Oka (Professor Emeritus at Utsunomiya University, with responsibility
for Research "Calculation
Method Embodied Energy and Carbon for the construction phase of buildings and lines for Legislators' Guide), dealing with
the verification of the correspondence
between the industrial areas
planned for Italy, USA and
Japan, in order of the “input-output” assessment analysis, deepening further aspects of the LCA also through a different approach.
