of qualification awarded: Degree in Architecture, Iuav (Venice, 1979); Ph.D.
in Territorial Planning (1988), with a thesis on Transition and change in post-1960s Anglo-American planning theory:
logical reconstruction and critical interpretation.
Occupation or position
held: Associate
professor in Urban Planning, Iuav (since 2000), Department of design and
planning in complex environments.
> Scientific Appointments: Member of the editorial board of the journals Archivio di Studi Urbani e Regionali (1990-2004) and Critica della Razionalitą Urbanistica
(2003-2008); member of the Scientific Coordination Committee of the research
project “Network of Town Plan Archives” (RAPu; web site:
www.rapu.it), promoted by the Triennale of Milan (1993-1999); scientific
responsibility for the research project for the Ministry of Public Works designed to create an Archive of Town Plans and a
corresponding sub-site on the Ministry’s web-site (1999-2009).
> Teaching activities: Head of the Workshop in Urban Planning ad Design (2nd year) and
Lecturer in City and Territory History
(1st year) in the Degree Course in Urban and Territorial Planning
for the Faculty of Territorial Planning at IUAV.

Architectural Design in the Faculties of Architecture at the Milan

> Educational and assistance activities for local
communities: Member of the Bergamo Consultative
Committee of Experts for Kosovo – a volunteer association operating with the
NGO “North-South” – which promoted, organized and ran the 1st Architecture and Town Planning Workshop in Pec-Peje, Kosovo (2002), aimed
at the sdudents, professional people and administrative officials of the city.
Research
interests and activities: Her research interests include the role of urban
planning instruments in the transformation of cities; the traditions of thought
that influenced the Italian planning culture; urban planning, social action and
the creation of opportunities for insurgent citizenship; the ideas of cities
and the construction of forma urbis in European cities in the XX century. On
these issues she has directed and been a member of several research programs
and projects.
She currently is pursuing her research and
writing on the tertiary transition of the city, the development of activities
associated with the new knowledge economy and their relationship with planning
policies and devices.
She has edited and is the author of various books and academic
articles, among which Carlo Doglio. Per
prova ed errore (Genoa, 1995); Lewis
Mumford. In difesa della cittą (Turin, 2000); Cento anni di piani urbanistici (with B. Bonfantini, Milan, 2001);
two books – La costruzione dello
spazio urbano – which are concerning the reconstruction of
contemporary city, mantaining consistency with its traditional morphology, with
the case studies of Berlin and Barcelona; and the essays recently published
“The space of the city in reconstruction: the landscapes of Barcelona and
Berlin” (International Journal of
Law in Contest, vol. 6, Issue 03, 2010), and “La transizione dell’economia
urbana verso i servizi avanzati. Il profilo di Milano” (Dialoghi Internazionali, n. 17, 2012).
